What would technology look like if it were genuinely on your side?
Comatter exists because that question kept producing uncomfortable answers. Almost nothing we use daily is designed to leave us more capable than it found us. Most of it is designed to be returned to.
So we build the other thing. Some of it is ours from the start — Lightpass is the first, and it is running its first pilot now. The rest begins with an organisation carrying a problem worth solving properly, and finishes in the same place: a product we own, host and keep making better.
We work in AI, automation and engineering, and the engineering means physical things as well as software. It is an unusual combination and it is the point: we have designed products that had to survive being manufactured, audited and shipped, which is a good school for being careful about the things people rely on.
We are small, we are based in the UK, and we intend to be here in ten years. That last part shapes more of our decisions than anything else on this page.
The name
Co · matter
Co — together. Matter — the things that count, and the substance they are made of. What we build has to matter to the person on the other side of it, or there is no reason to build it. The full stop is the whole logo, which tells you roughly how much we enjoy explaining ourselves.
