A company built around a question
What would technology look like if it were genuinely on your side?
Most software is measured by how much of your attention it captures. That single choice explains an enormous amount about how modern products behave — the notifications, the endless feeds, the quiet accumulation of data you never agreed to in any meaningful sense. It is not that the people building these things are villains. It is that they are optimising for the thing they decided to measure.
Comatter starts from a different measurement. We ask whether a person is better off for having used what we made. That is a harder thing to instrument and a slower thing to grow, and it rules out a good deal of the standard playbook. We think it is the only version worth building.
In practice, Comatter is a holding company. It covers our own products, along with software development, IT consultancy, and data and hosting services for other organisations. The commercial shape varies from venture to venture; the principles do not.
The name is the argument in miniature. Co — together, a company, a collaboration. Matter — the things that count, and the substance they are made of. What we build has to matter to the person on the other side of it, or there is no reason to build it.
